Editing Advice Received
Well, it’s been another one of those weeks, editing and line editing!
I’ve spent the last few weeks on Threads talking to other indie authors about their editing processes. It’s not straightforward for everyone, and there’s no single right answer.
I’m lucky that my wife was an editor in her previous career, and she’s done a remarkable job helping me turn my ideas into the stories I see in my head when I close my eyes. I know not everyone is as fortunate to have that kind of support, and I’m incredibly grateful for it.
I received the following piece of advice which I found most useful from Moran Daniella Jassiah. Dark Romance & Romantasy Author Beta reader + editor for writers @morandaniellajassiah. TikTok is @bookbopdaily
‘Hey Andrew, one trick for your Kindle pass: if you catch yourself skimming anywhere, mark it. Those spots are usually where the pace sags, and they're easier to spot than typos. Hope the last 20 chapters go smoothly.’
The best piece of advice from Threads so far. So thank you.
Another useful bit of advice I received was to get your computer or phone to read the book aloud to you. This helped immensely.
