My Books and Inspiration
The Books, and the Person Behind the Words
Writing has always been an excuse to explore the ideas that refuse to leave me alone.
My books tend to sit somewhere between science fiction, dystopia, mystery and the darker edges of human nature. I like asking what if? — and then following that question to wherever it leads. What happens when society changes the rules we take for granted? What would people sacrifice to survive?
My first novels, including The Legend of Annabelle Lee and The Darkness Between Days, explore very different worlds, but they share that same fascination with humanity, technology, power and the consequences of the choices we make.
There is also someone who has been an essential part of bringing these stories to life: my wife, Amie.
Amie has been far more than an editor. She has read the manuscripts, challenged ideas, spotted the things I couldn't see and helped turn what was often a chaotic collection of thoughts into something that other people can actually read.
Writing a novel can be a solitary process, but publishing one certainly doesn't have to be. Having someone beside you who is prepared to say "that doesn't work" — and then help you figure out why — is invaluable.
So while my name might be on the cover, these books have never been entirely mine alone.
I'm looking forward to sharing them with you.
